When you do not know who you are, your life is dominated by uncertainty. You never feel comfortable, because everything you know about yourself is shaped by the opinions of others. You can view your self-image as a database that is only composed of what other people have said about you. That opinion of others has become so self-evident, so deeply rooted that it largely determines your self-image. Perhaps you have the idea that your self-image has been developed by yourself. That is unfortunately not the case, your self-image forms when others show what they think of you. In this way you have become purely dependent on the opinion of others.

If they say that you are intelligent, you believe that you are intelligent. If they say that you are stupid, you believe that you are stupid. For the reason that the opinion of others is your only self-knowledge. your self-image can never give you a sense of self-worth. That is why it is very important for you that others find you okay. If you do not think you are okay then you must take action. Because the way you are is not enough. So you are going to adapt to get the best possible image. But no matter how well you do your best, you will continue to feel insecure and vulnerable because other people's opinions can change just any minute. The same person that put you on a throne today can throw you off tomorrow.

How different is it when you really know who you are? If you know your true self then there is no doubt about it and you don't care what others think of you. Whether or not the whole world thinks you are okay... you couldn´t care less because your self-image comes from within and not from without.
